As someone who spent 17 years as a plumber and heavy equipment operator, I can tell you that much of this gap is sustained by condescension. As a professor, I had an opportunity to hear what "professionals" thought about those who were red necks. What is your goal here? Is it to give them a hand up, to make them more like you, to communicate with them? If the church is only a soup kitchen then we are doing it for ourselves.Dale Matsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12975212053636312471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34346296.post-48422968346664665352010-08-24T13:30:46.307-04:002010-08-24T13:30:46.307-04:00thankyou for this post. We are foster parents in a wealthy county, and attend a wealthy church. I hope that you write more about what you learn about bridging this cultural and linguistic gap in your church.A.S.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34346296.post-28629219443813090062010-08-24T12:04:31.156-04:002010-08-24T12:04:31.156-04:00Fr. It may not interest everyone, but it isn't beyond your comprehension because, on the surface, you appear to fit a stereotype. You might have been surprised at what conversation would have developed had you talked about the book in reasonable detail.Scouthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06209638721810105979noreply@blogger.com
