Ecclesiology Update

Apropos of my recent post regarding "impoverished ecclesiology," I invite those who are interested to check out this article by Ephraim Radner on the Covenant blog, which, along with the comments that follow, teases out some of the issues I tried to raise more briefly in my own post.

    Dan,

This is my first visit to your site, by way of Mark Harris' blog.

I appreciate your reminder to folks of the faithfulness of many in the Episcopal Church. I am a person who can say the creed each week without my fingers crossed, who absolutely believes that Jesus is Lord and the Son of God, but also believes that Gay committed relationships can be a faithful response to the call of God.

I resent being painted as somehow "unorthodox" or apostate just because of my understanding of the whole Gay issue. Most of my clergy friends in the Diocese of California likewise are pretty orthodox. I can't remember a discussion with one of them recently in which the Virgin conception or the resurrection was seriously questioned (though many find those events a mystery).

So it baffles me to be painted as some sort of heretic.

Anyway, keep up the good work of conversation. We are all drawn closer to the truth as we faithfully struggle together.

    Thomas
